Blackwood Golf Club was formed on 12 May 1930. Its first nine-hole course occupied land south of Blackwood before the club purchased 100 acres at Cherry Gardens in 1961.
The original course was leased for the peppercorn rent of one shilling per year. In 1986, Blackwood became the first South Australian golf club to admit women as full members.
