Riversdale began as Surrey Hills Golf Club in 1892, adopted its current name in 1907 and opened its present course in 1927. Alex Russell reshaped it after a railway split the property in 1930.
In the earliest years, grazing cattle kept the fairways short because the club did not yet own a lawnmower.
